Bakelit
Bakelit oder Polyoxybenzylmethylenglykolanhydrid ist ein früher Plastik. Es ist ein wärmehärtendes Phenolformaldehydharz, das aus einer Eliminierungsreaktion von Phenol mit Formaldehyd gebildet wird. Es wurde von dem in Belgien geborenen Chemiker Leo Baekeland in New York im Jahre 1907 entwickelt. Einer der ersten Kunststoffe aus synthetischen Komponenten, wurde Bakelite für seine elektrische nichtleitende und hitzebeständige Eigenschaften in elektrischen Isolatoren, Radio-und Telefon-Gehäuse verwendet, und so vielfältig Produkte wie Geschirr, Schmuck, Pfeifenstiele, Schusswaffen und Kinderspielzeug. Bakelit wurde 1993 von der American Chemical Society zum National Historic Chemical Landmark ernannt und erkannte seine Bedeutung als weltweit erster Kunststoff. Der "Retro" -Ansatz der alten Bakelit-Produkte hat sie sammelbar gemacht.
