Nektar
Nektar ist eine Zucker-reiche Flüssigkeit, die von Pflanzen in Drüsen namens Nektarien produziert wird, entweder innerhalb der Blüten, mit denen sie bestäubende Tiere anzieht, oder durch extraflorale Nektare, die eine Nährstoffquelle für tierische Mutualisten darstellen, die wiederum einen Anti-Hirtenschutz bieten. Gemeinsame Nektar-konsumierende Bestäuber sind Bienen, Schmetterlinge und Motten, Kolibris und Fledermäuse. Nektar spielt eine wichtige Rolle in der foraging Ökonomie und der Gesamtentwicklung der Nektar-essenden Arten; Zum Beispiel sind Nektar und seine Eigenschaften für die differentielle Entwicklung der afrikanischen Honigbiene verantwortlich, A. m. Scutellata und die westliche Honigbiene. Nektar ist ein ökologisch wichtiger Gegenstand, die Zuckerquelle für Honig. Es ist auch nützlich in der Landwirtschaft und im Gartenbau, weil die erwachsenen Stadien von einigen räuberischen Insekten, wie fast alle einsamen Wespen, auf Nektar ernähren. Im Gegenzug, diese Wespen dann jagen landwirtschaftliche Schädlingsinsekten als Nahrung für ihre Jungen. Zum Beispiel sind Faden-Taillen-Wespen bekannt für Jagd-Raupen, die destruktiv für Getreide sind. Nektar-Sekretion steigt, wenn die Blüte von Bestäubern besucht wird.
