Ein Palinode oder Palinody ist eine Ode, in der der Schriftsteller eine in einem früheren Gedicht ausgedrückte Ansicht oder Stimmung zurückzieht. Die erste aufgezeichnete Verwendung eines Palinodes ist in einem Gedicht von Stesichorus im 7. Jahrhundert v. Chr., In dem er seine frühere Aussage zurückzieht, dass der Trojanische Krieg die ganze Schuld von Helen war. Das Wort kommt aus dem griechischen παλινῳδία aus πάλιν und ᾠδή; Das lateinisch abgeleitete äquivalente "recantation" ist eine exakte calque. Es kann auch eine Wiederholung einer diffamierenden Aussage im Schottengesetz sein.
