Apollos - ein früher jüdisch-christlicher Mensch, der im Neuen Testament mehrfach erwähnt wurde. Er war ein Jude, geboren in Alexandria. Er war wahrscheinlich ein Schüler Johannes des Täufers - nach der biblischen Darstellung kannte er nur Johannes 'Taufe. Zum ersten Mal erscheint sie in Apostelgeschichte 18: 24-19: 1, als er nach Ephesus kam und in der Synagoge unterrichtete. Nach der Apostelgeschichte war er mit griechischer Rhetorik vertraut und wusste viel über Jesus. Er lenkte die Aufmerksamkeit der Christen auf sich, und Priscilla und Aquila, Paulus Freunde, gaben ihm weitere Anweisungen zum christlichen Glauben. Von Ephesus ging er nach Korinth, wo er mit den Juden sprach, ihnen die Bibel über Jesus als Messias erzählte und sie auch stritt. Laut der Textvariante im Codex wurde Mesa enthusiastisch begrüßt. In Korinth traf er auch Paulus. Einige Jahre später bildeten sie sich in der Gemeinschaft der korinthischen Divisionen. Manche glauben an Apollos, vielleicht wegen seiner rhetorischen Fähigkeiten. Paulus erwähnte im ersten Brief an die Korinther mehrerer Parteien, Apollos, Petrus und Christus, und die Divisionen selbst wurden stark kritisiert.

Z Efezu wyruszył do Koryntu, gdzie przemawiał do Żydów, mówiąc im na podstawie Biblii o Jezusie jako Mesjaszu, zbijał też ich argumenty. Według wariantu tekstowego w Kodeksie Bezy został przyjęty z entuzjazmem. W Koryncie poznał też Pawła. Kilka lat później powstały we wspólnocie korynckiej podziały. Część wierzących opowiedziała się za Apollosem, być może z racji na jego zdolności retoryczne. Paweł wspominał w 1. Liście do Koryntian o kilku stronnictwach, Apollosa, Piotra i Chrystusa, same zaś podziały poddał zdecydowanej krytyce.
