Bhakti

Bhakti

In Hinduism, Bhakti refers in a broader sense to the love of a personal God, and in the narrower sense the devotional practice of an emphatically emotional orientation towards a personal God. Since the 6th / 7th Century in South India and since the 15th century in North India, it was above all the bhakti movements, which were against the power of the temples and the priest position. Bhakti, the affectionate affection, characterizes the relationship between man and God, which replaced the Vedic sacrifice and at the same time integrates the intellectual search for salvific knowledge into a strong emotional relationship. The abstract Brahman of the Upanishads becomes an approachable person in gods like Krishna, Shiva, Devi, or the Guru as their representative. An example of this would be the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita: here yoga, which initially aimed only at the discipline of one's own senses and thoughts, gets the attachment or identification of the individual with God through love for the goal. The other three yoga routes are: Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Raja Yoga ,.
