Genet

Genet

In botany, genetics refers to a collective of plants that are or have been connected to the earth by means of a rhizome. The plants therefore seem to be independent, but in reality have been formed by vegetative propagation and form a clone. As a Ramet, we call a "Klongschlwister", the smallest viable unit of a genet. The terms Genet and Ramet are to be understood in the context of each other. All ramets of the same origin form the totality of a clone. Thus, a strawberry plant with its foothills is a genet, all its offshoots are ramets and together form a clone. The same is the case, for example, with a vegetable or tulip wattle and its descendants from the daughter onions. These terms are particularly used in current research in order to clearly characterize vegetatively originated individuals and their precursors. For example, the trees of a whole forest can be ramets of a single genet. A large proportion of the individuals in grass stocks can also be based on vegetative propagation.
