Hiawatha

Hiawatha

Hiawatha is the name of a legendary chieftain who has lived as co-founder and leader of the Iroquois League in the time of the establishment of this covenant. Most archaeologists and anthropologists believe that the Iroquois League of the Five Nations Mohawk, Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga and Seneca was founded between 1450 and 1600. In 1722 they formed with the Tuscarora the Six Nations. Hiawatha was a successor of the Great Founder of Peace, a prophet and spiritual leader of the Huron tribe, who prophesied the union of all the Iroquois, having common ancestors and similar languages. The stories about Hiawatha differ in their tribal affiliation. He should have been either a chief of the Onondaga or the Mohawk. With their help and with the help of his re-art, Hiawatha succeeded in implementing his idea. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow dedicated him the epic The Song of Hiawatha in 1855. Mike Oldfield used parts from the Hiawatha Poem for his album Incantations in 1978. The poem also plays an important role in Antonín Dvořák's 9th Symphony. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow widmete ihm 1855 das Epos The Song of Hiawatha. Sinfonie.
