Plegie

Plegie

A plegie is a complete paralysis of skeletal muscles. The term "paralysis" is often used as a synonym, but it is also a broader concept, which also includes muscle or nerve groups that do not move the skeletal system. Paralysis may occur for individual muscles or muscle groups when the nerve supplying them or the root cells in the spinal cord are destroyed. Plegia of entire limbs or limb sections occur, for example, in the case of spinal cross-sectional syndrome. In humans, due to the great importance of the pyramidal tract, they also occur in the case of damage to the motor cortex. Individual muscle groups can also be precipitated by a damage to the nerves of the plexus brachialis and plexus lumbosacralis, which are internal to them.
