tryptophan

Tryptophan

\u0026 Gt; 16000 mg · kg-1 (LD50, rat, orally) As far as possible and in use, SI units are used. Unless stated otherwise, the data given are valid for standard conditions. (Tryptophan, abbreviated Trp or W) is a proteinogenic α-amino acid (synonym for L-tryptophan: (S) -tryptophane) with an aromatic indole ring system in the L form (see Fischer projection) , Together with phenylalanine, tyrosine and histidine, tryptophan therefore belongs to the aromatic amino acids. It belongs to the essential amino acids, so can not be formed by the human body and must be fed with the food. The enantiomer D-tryptophan (mirror image of L-tryptophan) and the racemate (mixture of D- and L-form) are of only minor importance. When mention is made in the literature "tryptophan" without further name addition (prefix), L-tryptophan is meant.
