WHAT DOES ABSTRACTION MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Abstraction

Abstraction is a process by which concepts are derived from the usage and classification of literal concepts, first principles, or other methods. "An abstraction" is the product of this process—a concept that acts as a super-categorical noun for all subordinate concepts, and connects any related concepts as a group, field, or category. Abstractions may be formed by reducing the information content of a concept or an observable phenomenon, typically to retain only information which is relevant for a particular purpose. For example, abstracting a leather soccer ball to the more general idea of a ball retains only the information on general ball attributes and behavior, eliminating the other characteristics of that particular ball.

Definition of abstraction in the English dictionary

The first definition of abstraction in the dictionary is absence of mind; preoccupation. Other definition of abstraction is the process of formulating generalized ideas or concepts by extracting common qualities from specific examples. Abstraction is also an idea or concept formulated in this way.

Bernard Beckett
Science is a little bit more than a wonderful way of modelling and predicting; it's a wonderful technical abstraction. I think science is a really wonderful technical abstraction.
3
Kate Bernheimer
I have been writing fairy tales for as long as I can remember. Not much has changed in terms of my natural attraction to the narrative techniques of fairy tales. My appreciation of them in the traditional stories has deepened, especially of flat and unadorned language, intuitive logic, abstraction, and everyday magic.
4
Max Bill
We call those works of art concrete that came into being on the basis of their inherent resources and rules - without external borrowing from natural phenomena, without transforming those phenomena, in other words: not by abstraction.
5
Alexander Calder
Why must art be static? You look at an abstraction, sculptured or painted, an entirely exciting arrangement of planes, spheres, nuclei, entirely without meaning. It would be perfect, but it is always still. The next step in sculpture is motion.
6
Daniel Clowes
I have this certain vision of the way I want my comics to look; this sort of photographic realism, but with a certain abstraction that comics can give. It's kind of a fine line.
7
Lily Cole
I paint - I tend more to abstraction - but not as much as I would like to because of time. I would love to do sculpture - I've toyed with the idea of fitting in a sculpture course.
8
Auguste Comte
The only real life is the collective life of the race; individual life has no existence except as an abstraction.
9
Alfonso Cuaron
When you're doing a film, narrative is your most important tool, but it's a tool to create a cinematographic experience, to create those moments that are beyond narrative, that are almost an abstraction of that moment that hits your psyche.
10
Jeffrey Deitch
What I hope is I'll eventually be seen as an actual individual, not as some abstraction - an art dealer running a museum.
