WHAT DOES AL-QAIDA MEAN IN ENGLISH?

al-Qaida

Al-Qaeda

Al-Qaeda is a global militant Islamist and takfiri organization founded by Osama bin Laden, Abdullah Azzam,[23] and several other militants,[24] at some point between August 1988[25] and late 1989,[24] with its origins being traceable to the Soviet war in Afghanistan.[26][27] It operates as a network comprising both a multinational, stateless army[28] and a radical Sunni Muslim movement calling for global jihad and a strict interpretation of sharia law. It has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations Security Council, NATO, the European Union, the United States, Russia, India and various other countries. Al-Qaeda has carried out many attacks on non-Sunni Muslims,[29] non-Muslims,[30][31] and other targets it considers kafir.[32] Amidst the Syrian civil war, Al Qaeda factions started fighting each other, as well as the Kurds and government. Al-Qaeda has attacked civilian and military targets in various countries, including the September 11 attacks, 1998 U.S. embassy bombings and the 2002 Bali bombings. The U.S. government responded to the September 11 attacks by launching the War on Terror.

Let me say this: I believe closing Guantanamo is in our Nation's national security interest. Guantanamo is used not only by al-Qaida, but also by other nations, governments, and individuals - people good and bad - as a symbol of America's abuse of Muslims, and it is fanning the flames of anti-Americanism around the world.
