Firstly I did it in this huge theatre in Avignon, then to smaller places, then bigger places. You have to change the volume of the voice, give more or less. The way you have to relate to space makes it like sculpture.

WHAT DOES AVIGNON MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Avignon

Avignon

1 French Land Register data, which excludes lakes, ponds, glaciers > 1 km² and river estuaries. 2 Population without double counting: residents of multiple communes only counted once. Avignon is a French commune in southeastern France in the department of the Vaucluse bordered by the left bank of the Rhône river. Of the 90,194 inhabitants of the city, about 12,000 live in the ancient town centre surrounded by its medieval ramparts. Between 1309 and 1377 during the Avignon Papacy, seven successive popes resided in Avignon. The town was sold to the papacy by Countess Jeanne of Provence in 1348. Papal control persisted until 1791 when during the French Revolution it became part of France. The town is now the capital of the Vaucluse department and one of the few French cities to have preserved its ramparts. The historic centre, which includes the Palais des Papes, the cathedral and the Saint-Bénézet Bridge, was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. The Festival d'Avignon is an important arts festival that is held in the city in July.

There are always things I find difficult - being in crowds, remembering faces. I do like routines. I always travel with someone. My life in Avignon is a very quiet one. I have an apartment that looks over the whole city. I can drop into town, but a lot of the time I write from home. In some respects I still live a very quiet, simple life.
