WHAT DOES CYSTICERCOSIS MEAN IN ENGLISH?

cysticercosis

Cysticercosis

Cysticercosis is a tissue infection by the pork tapeworm.[1] People may have little or no symptoms for years, develop approximately one to two centimeter painless solid bumps in the skin and muscles, or have neurological symptoms if the brain is affected.[1][2] After months or years these bumps can become painful and swollen then resolve.[2] When cysts form in the brain it is known as neurocysticercosis.[3] In the developing world this is one of the most common cause of seizures.[2] The disease is usually spread by eating foods that contains the tapeworm's eggs.[1] The foods most commonly believed to be the cause are uncooked vegetables.[1] The tapeworm eggs are from feces of a person infected with the adult worms.[2] This infection is known as taeniasis and is when adult pork tapeworms live within the intestines.[1] It is due to eating cysts in poorly cooked pork or beef.[1] Both forms of infection can occur in the same person at the same time.[1] The diagnosis can be made by aspiration of a cyst.[2] Taking pictures of the brain with computer tomography or magnetic resonance imaging is important for diagnosis disease in the brain.
