WHAT DOES DIMETHYLSULPHOXIDE MEAN IN ENGLISH?

dimethylsulphoxide

Dimethyl sulfoxide

Dimethyl sulfoxide is an organosulfur compound with the formula 2SO. This colorless liquid is an important polar aprotic solvent that dissolves both polar and nonpolar compounds and is miscible in a wide range of organic solvents as well as water. It penetrates the skin very readily and has the unusual property that many individuals perceive a garlic-like taste in the mouth after contact of DMSO with the skin. This perceived garlic odor may be due to nonolfactory activation of TRPA1 receptors in trigeminal ganglia. Unlike dimethyl and diallyl disulfide, the mono- and tri- sulfides, and other similar structures, the pure chemical DMSO is odorless. Although it has some niche medicinal uses, it also has significant known side effects. It has been discussed as treatment for cancer and other conditions.

Definition of dimethylsulphoxide in the English dictionary

The definition of dimethylsulphoxide in the dictionary is a colourless odourless liquid substance used as a solvent and in medicine as an agent to improve the penetration of drugs applied to the skin. Formula: 2SO DMSO.
