WHAT DOES FLAME RETARDANT MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Flame retardant

Flame retardants are compounds added to manufactured materials, such as plastics and textiles, and surface finishes and coatings that inhibit, suppress, or delay the production of flames to prevent the spread of fire. They may be mixed with the base material or chemically bonded to it. Mineral flame retardants are typically additive while organohalogen and organophosphorus compounds can be either reactive or additive. The annual consumption of flame retardants amounts to over 1.5 million tonnes per year, which is the equivalent of a sales volume of approx. 1.9 billion euro. In 2008 the United States, Europe and Asia consumed 1.8 million tonnes, worth US$4.20-4.25 billion. According to Ceresana, the market for flame retardants is increasing due to rising safety standards worldwide and the increased use of flame retardants. It is expected that the global flame retardant market will generate US$5.8 billion. In 2010, Asia-Pacific was the largest market for flame retardants, accounting for approximately 41% of global demand, followed by North America, and Western Europe.
