Ancient Rome portal v t e The Gracchi brothers, Tiberius and Gaius, were Roman plebeian nobiles who both served as tribunes in the late 2nd century BC. They attempted to pass land reform legislation that would redistribute the major patrician landholdings among the plebeians, in addition to other reform measures. After achieving some early success, both were assassinated for their efforts.

The definition of Gracchus in the dictionary is Tiberius Sempronius. ?163–133 bc, and his younger brother, Gaius Sempronius, 153–121 bc, known as the Gracchi. Roman tribunes and reformers. Tiberius attempted to redistribute public land among the poor but was murdered in the ensuing riot. Violence again occurred when the reform was revived by Gaius, and he too was killed.
