WHAT DOES LARVAL THERAPY MEAN IN ENGLISH?

larval therapy

Maggot therapy

Maggot therapy is also known as maggot debridement therapy, larval therapy, larva therapy, larvae therapy, biodebridement or biosurgery. It is a type of biotherapy involving the introduction of live, disinfected maggots into the non-healing skin and soft tissue wound of a human or animal for the purpose of cleaning out the necrotic tissue within a wound and disinfection. It was long believed that the debridement was selective on necrotic tissue, but new literature has questioned that belief. A recent clinical study in France showed non-selectivity of maggot action as wound surface increased over treatment.

Definition of larval therapy in the English dictionary

The definition of larval therapy in the dictionary is the use of maggots that feed on dead tissue to assist in the healing of serious wounds. An ancient practice, it has been revived in rare cases in which healing is hampered by the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics.
