WHAT DOES LPN MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Licensed practical nurse

A licensed practical nurse in much of the United States and most Canadian provinces is a nurse who cares for people who are sick, injured, convalescent, or disabled under the direction of registered nurses and physicians. In the U.S. states of California and Texas they are called licensed vocational nurse. Equivalent professions outside the United States are "registered practical nurse" in the Canadian province of Ontario, "enrolled nurses" or "Division 2 nurses" in Australia and New Zealand, and "state enrolled nurses" in the United Kingdom. A person can generally become an LPN with two years of training; all U.S state and territorial boards also require passage of the NCLEX-PN exam. In terms of nursing education, a licensed practical nurse is a step down from a registered nurse, which generally requires a two-year associate's degree or four-year bachelor's degree and passage of the NCLEX-RN exam.
