WHAT DOES MARTENSITE MEAN IN ENGLISH?

martensite

Martensite

Martensite, named after the German metallurgist Adolf Martens, most commonly refers to a very hard form of steel crystalline structure, but it can also refer to any crystal structure that is formed by diffusionless transformation. It includes a class of hard minerals occurring as lath- or plate-shaped crystal grains. When viewed in cross section, the lenticular crystal grains are sometimes incorrectly described as acicular.

Definition of martensite in the English dictionary

The definition of martensite in the dictionary is a constituent formed in steels by rapid quenching, consisting of a supersaturated solid solution of carbon in iron. It is formed by the breakdown of austenite when the rate of cooling is large enough to prevent pearlite forming.
