WHAT DOES METAL MEAN IN ENGLISH?

metal

Metal

A metal is a solid material that is typically hard, opaque, shiny, and features good electrical and thermal conductivity. Metals are generally malleable—that is, they can be hammered or pressed permanently out of shape without breaking or cracking—as well as fusible and ductile. About 91 of the 118 elements in the periodic table are metals. The meaning of "metal" differs for various communities. For example, astronomers use the blanket term "metal" for convenience to collectively describe all elements other than hydrogen and helium. Thus, in astronomy and physical cosmology, the metallicity of an object is the proportion of its matter made up of chemical elements other than hydrogen and helium. In addition, many elements and compounds that are not normally classified as metals become metallic under high pressures; these are known as metallic allotropes of non-metals.

Definition of metal in the English dictionary

The first definition of metal in the dictionary is any of a number of chemical elements, such as iron or copper, that are often lustrous ductile solids, have basic oxides, form positive ions, and are good conductors of heat and electricity. Other definition of metal is an alloy, such as brass or steel, containing one or more of these elements. Metal is also type made of metal.
