Parole

Parole is the provisional release of a prisoner who agrees to certain conditions prior to the completion of the maximum sentence period. Originating from the French parole, the term became associated during the Middle Ages with the release of prisoners who gave their word.

Definition of parole in the English dictionary

The first definition of parole in the dictionary is the freeing of a prisoner before his sentence has expired, on the condition that he is of good behaviour. Other definition of parole is the duration of such conditional release. Parole is also a promise given by a prisoner, as to be of good behaviour if granted liberty or partial liberty.
