The picometre or picometer is a unit of length in the metric system, equal to one trillionth of a metre, which is the SI base unit of length. It can be written in scientific notation as 1×10−12 m, in engineering notation as 1 E−12 m, and is simply 1 m / 1,000,000,000,000. It equals one millionth of a micrometre, and was formerly called micromicron, stigma, or bicron. The symbol µµ was once used for it. It is also one hundredth of an angstrom, an internationally recognised unit of length.
