In theology and philosophy, probabilism refers to an ancient Greek doctrine of academic skepticism. It holds that in the absence of certainty, probability is the best criterion. It can also refer to a 17th-century religious thesis about ethics, or a modern physical-philosophical thesis.

Definition of probabilism in the English dictionary

The definition of probabilism in the dictionary is the doctrine that although certainty is impossible, probability is a sufficient basis for belief and action. Other definition of probabilism is the principle of Roman Catholic moral theology that in a situation in which authorities differ as to what is the right course of action it is permissible to follow any course which has the support of some authority.
