Definition of profit in the English dictionary

The first definition of profit in the dictionary is excess of revenues over outlays and expenses in a business enterprise over a given period of time, usually a year. Other definition of profit is the monetary gain derived from a transaction. Profit is also income derived from property or an investment, as contrasted with capital gains.
