Soapberry is a common name for several plants and may refer to: ▪ Plants in the genus Sapindus, native to warm temperate to tropical regions in both the Old World and the New World. The berries of these plants contain a natural, low-sudsing detergent called saponin. ▪ Canada Buffaloberry is also known as "soapberry" and is native to North America. This shrub bears bitter yet edible red berries.

Definition of soapberry in the English dictionary

The first definition of soapberry in the dictionary is any of various chiefly tropical American sapindaceous trees of the genus Sapindus, esp S. saponaria, having pulpy fruit containing saponin. Other definition of soapberry is a related plant, S. drummondii, of the southwestern US. Soapberry is also the fruit of any of these trees.
