WHAT DOES SOCK MEAN IN ENGLISH?

sock

Sock

A sock is an item of clothing worn on the feet. The foot is among the heaviest producers of sweat in the body, as it can produce over 1 US pint of perspiration per day. Socks help to absorb this sweat and draw it to areas where air can evaporate the perspiration. In cold environments, socks decrease the risk of frostbite. The clothing's name is derived from the loose-fitting slipper, called a soccus in Latin, worn by Roman comic actors.

The first definition of sock in the dictionary is a cloth covering for the foot, reaching to between the ankle and knee and worn inside a shoe. Other definition of sock is an insole put in a shoe, as to make it fit better. Sock is also to provide with socks.
