Bénédictine

Bénédictine

Bénédictine is a herbal liqueur produced in France. Its recipe includes twenty-seven plants and spices. In 1510, in the abbey of Fécamp of the Benedictine Order in Normandy, a monk named Dom Bernardo Vincelli developed the recipe of an aromatic elixir. The drink took place in the abbey until the recipe was lost during the turbulent times that the abbey lived during the French Revolution. In 1863, Alexandre le Grand, rediscovered the recipe and began to produce the liquor under the brand "Bénédictine"; The company he founded continued to produce liquor to this day. The recipe is a very protected trade secret that is only known by three people. Many people have tried and failed to develop similar recipes, such that at its headquarters in Fecamp the company has a "Hall of Fakes" where bottles of failed attempts are presented by the alleged competitors. The manufacturing process comprises several distillations, which are then mixed.
