Caballero

A gentleman is the purest meaning for the word, a person who rides a horse, having a great wealth in terms of meanings, since the fact of riding has meant a very different and changing social condition in the different historical stages. For the nomadic tribes of Central Asia there was a very close relationship between man and horse, according to which the horse was not only a means of transport but also a source of food and figured in religious magical rituals. For the Romans and Greeks, on the other hand, to be gentleman implied a social and economic prestige given the cost of maintaining a horse. In the Middle Ages, the institution of chivalry was related to a code of conduct and honor that defined not only the art of war, but also implied social behavior.
