Claro is a communications services brand owned by the Mexican company América Móvil, both owned by Grupo Carso, whose majority shareholder is Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim. Claro has a presence in the integrated communications industry in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. América Móvil also operates under the name Telcel in Mexico and Tracfone Wireless in the United States. Overall, this company has about 262 million wireless customers, 30 million fixed lines, 17 million broadband accesses and 16 million cable TV subscribers. The Claro brand was created in 2003 in Brazil by the merger of the operators owned by América Móvil: ATL, BCP, Americel, Tess Celular and Claro Digital. Currently, Claro also operates in the states of Bahia, Sergipe, Santa Catarina, Paraná and Minas Gerais.
