contagioso

Infectious disease

Enfermedad infecciosa

An infectious disease can be the clinical manifestation of an infection caused by a microorganism - such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and sometimes protozoans, etc. - or by prions. In the case of pathogenic biological agents of macroscopic size, such as worms, there is no mention of infection but of infestation. In the case of infection or infestation by protozoa, worms or arthropods we speak of parasitic disease, since these groups have been traditionally studied by parasitology.
