Chordata

Chordates are a phylum of the animal kingdom characterized by five synapomorphies, most prominent of which is the presence of a dorsal cord or notochord of turgid cells at least at some stage of development. Almost 65,000 species are known today, most of them belonging to the Vertebrates subphylum, and almost half of which are fish. Chordates are a group with great diversity, adapted to a large number of ecological niches, and have shown throughout their evolutionary history remarkable adaptations, especially to the terrestrial environment and its environment, but also to the aquatic or amphibian, in which Many of them constitute the last trophic links of their ecosystems. In the chordates it emphasizes the capacity of self-regulation and internal organization; Some, such as birds and mammals, can raise and maintain constant body temperature. These and other factors have added complexity to this group of animals, allowing greater control over metabolic reactions and the development of a complex nervous system.
