Gallus gallus domesticus

Gallus gallus domesticus

Gallus gallus domesticus is a domestic subspecies of a bird of the genus Gallus belonging to the family Phasianidae. Its common name is cock for the male and hen for the female. It is probably the largest bird on the planet, since it is estimated that it exceeds 13 billion copies. Roosters and chickens are bred mainly for their meat and for their eggs. They also take advantage of their feathers, and some varieties are raised and trained for use in cockfights. It is omnivorous and insectivorous. Their life expectancy is between 5 and 10 years, depending on the breed. Gallus gallus domesticus es una subespecie doméstica de ave del género Gallus perteneciente a la familia Phasianidae. Su nombre común es gallo para el macho y gallina para la hembra. Tal vez sea el ave más numerosa del planeta, pues se calcula que supera los 13 000 millones de ejemplares. Los gallos y gallinas son criados principalmente por su carne y por sus huevos. También se aprovechan sus plumas, y algunas variedades se crían y entrenan para su uso en peleas de gallos. Es omnívoro e insectívoro. Su esperanza de vida se encuentra entre los 5 y los 10 años, dependiendo de la raza.
