Homeostasis

Homeostasis

Homeostasis (from the Greek homo (ὅμος) meaning "similar" and stasis (στάσις) "state", "stability") is a property of living organisms consisting of their ability to maintain a stable internal condition It remains almost invariant in time) compensating for the changes that occur in its environment through the regulated exchange of matter and energy with the outside (metabolism), Homeostasis is a form of dynamic equilibrium possible thanks to a network of feedback systems that Constitute the mechanisms of self-regulation of living beings. The concept was applied by Walter Cannon in 1926, 1929 and in 1932, to refer to Claude Bernard's concept of the inner milieu, often considered the father of physiology, and published in 1865. Traditionally it has been applied in Biology but, given the fact that not only biological is able to meet this definition, other sciences and techniques have also adopted this term.
