Intelectual

Intellectual is the one that is dedicated to the study and the critical reflection on the reality, and communicates its ideas with the pretension to influence in her, reaching a certain status of authority before the public opinion. Coming from the world of culture, as creator or mediator, he intervenes in the world of politics by defending proposals or denouncing concrete injustices, in addition to producing or extending ideologies and defending one or other values. Intellectuality is the collective of intellectuals, grouped by reason of their national or ideological proximity. Sometimes the Russian word intelligentsia is used in an equivalent way, which in its most common usage designates the entire social stratum of those who possess a certain degree of intellectual formation, whether or not defined as social class. The term was coined in France during the so-called Dreyfus affair, initially as a pejorative qualification that anti-Dreyfusists used contemptuously to designate the set of characters from science, art, and culture who supported the release of the accused Jewish captain Alfred Dreyfus Unjustly of treason.
