Polystilo or pilastro to fascio, are pillars of complex section, mainly polilobulados. The pillar appears composed of a set of elongated columns, denominated sackbats. In the Gothic architecture, where it was extensively used, the polystilo continue without solution of continuity towards the ribbed vaults, turned into ribs. From a structural point of view there is no great difference between a pillar of square or circular section, a cruciform pillar or a pillar to fascia; While from the aesthetic point of view the continuity that is established between the supporting element and the sustained element contributes to give unity to the space of the Gothic building and to mark the lines of force that suppose the displacement of the tensions of the vault until the ground.

Polistilo o pilastro a fascio, son pilares de sección compleja, sobre todo polilobulados. El pilar aparece compuesto de un conjunto de columnas alargadas, denominadas baquetones. En la arquitectura gótica, donde fue extensamente utilizado, el polistilo prosiguen sin solución de continuidad hacia las bóvedas de crucería, convertidos en nervaduras. Desde un punto de vista estructural no hay gran diferencia entre un pilar de sección cuadrada o circular, un pilar cruciforme o un pilastro a fascio; mientras que desde el punto de vista estético la continuidad que se instaura entre elemento sustentante y elemento sustentado contribuye a dar unidad al espacio del edificio gótico y marcar las líneas de fuerza que suponen el desplazamiento de las tensiones de la bóveda hasta el suelo.
