Lightning is a powerful natural electrostatic discharge produced during a thunderstorm; Generating an "electromagnetic pulse". The precipitated electric discharge of the beam is accompanied by the emission of light, caused by the passage of electric current that ionizes the air molecules, and by the sound of thunder, developed by the shock wave. The electricity that passes through the atmosphere heats and expands the air rapidly, producing the noise characteristic of thunder. The rays are in plasma state. The probability of being struck by lightning is 1 in 2,320,000. On average, lightning measures 1 1/2 km and the longest was recorded in Texas and reached 190 km in length. Lightning can reach 200,000 km / h. The potential difference is 1000 million volts with respect to the ground. Each year there are 16 million lightning storms. Generally, the rays are produced by positive particles by the earth and negative from clouds of vertical development called cumulonimbos.
