Vitamin A, retinol or antixerophthalmic, is a fat soluble vitamin that is involved in the formation and maintenance of epithelial cells, bone growth, development, protection and regulation of skin and mucous membranes. Vitamin A is an essential nutrient for humans. It is also known as retinol, as it generates pigments necessary for the functioning of the retina. It plays an important role in the development of good vision, especially in the dim light. It may also be required for reproduction and lactation.
