Aspect accompli/inaccompli
The accomplished aspect envisages the process of an action beyond its term. The unfinished aspect envisages the trial being carried out. The accomplished / unfulfilled opposition depends on the auxiliaries being and having, and the semi-auxiliary coming from. This is a systematic opposition in French. In fact, this difference of semantic order overlaps a morphological difference: the composite forms of French times always indicate the completed aspect, while the simple forms indicate the unaccomplished aspect. For example, in singing, singing, singing, singing, singing, the process denoted by the verb is perceived in an unaccomplished unfolding. The fact that the action is past, or that it appears short, has no relation: these are other aspects. Le fait que l'action soit passée, ou qu'elle paraisse courte, n'a aucun rapport : ce sont d'autres aspects. Bien sûr, d'un point de vue externe au procès, il chanta dénote une action achevée, alors que il chante dénote une action en cours de réalisation. Mais il s'agit là d'un point de vue extérieur à l'action, dont rendent compte les tableaux de conjugaison ainsi que d'autres aspects.
