Thiamine pyrophosphate

Thiamine pyrophosphate

Thiamine pyrophosphate is a transfer cofactor. Derived from thiamine, it is fixed to the enzyme by a permanent covalent bond, it is therefore a prosthetic group. It participates in the decarboxylation reactions as in the enzymes: -pyruvate decarboxylase -pyruvate dehydrogenase -alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex Thiamine pyrophosphate is the effect of the biosynthesis of thiamine in a number of organisms for which it is not a vitamin. The expression of the corresponding genes is suppressed when the concentration of thiamine pyrophosphate is sufficient. This control involves a regulation of the translation of the mRNA, which involves a riboswitch.
