Zoospore
Zoospores are flagellate spores, mobile in water and produced by certain species of bacteria, algae, fungi and pseudochamps related to algae like all Oomycetes. Autonomous propulsion by flagella is often associated with chemotaxis, allowing the zoospore to move in response to the spread of certain chemical species. ▪ In fungi and pseudochamps, there are four types of zoospores: ▪ zoospores with posterior flagella, characteristic of Chytridiomycota. In most of the latter, there is only a posterior flagellum, but in the Neocallimastigales there are up to 16 ▪ biflagellated zoospores, with two whip-like flagella of unequal length; they are found in some Myxomycota and Plasmodiophoromycota ▪ zoospores with an anterior flagellum; this anterior flagellum covered with short "hairs" is characteristic of Hyphochytriomycota. It pulls the spore forward by rhythmic sinusoidal movements.
The definition of zoospore in the dictionary is spore devoid of cellulosic membrane, mobile with flagella, which exists in algae and certain fungi living in water. Another definition of zoospore is sporangium containing zoospores.
