१. ऋग्वेद का एक ब्राह्मण ।
विशेष—इसमें ४० अध्याय और आठ पंचिकाएँ हैं । पहले
१६ अध्यायों में अग्निष्टोम और सोमयोग का वर्णन है । १७-१८ वें अध्याय में गवामथन का विवरण है जो ३६० दिनों
में पुरा होता है । १९२४ तक द्वादशाह यज्ञ की विधि और
होता के कर्तव्य का वर्णन है, २५ वें अध्याय में अग्निहोत्र-
विधान और भूलों के लिये प्रायश्चित्त आदि की व्यवस्था है ।
२६ से ३० अध्याय तक सोमयोग में होता के सहायक का
कर्तव्य तथा । शिल्पशास्त्र के कुछ विषय वर्णित है । ३३ अध्याय
से ४० अध्याय तक राजा को गद्दी पर बिठाने तथा पुरोहित के और और कामों का वर्णन है । शुनःशेष की तथा ऐतरेय
ब्राह्मण की है । [को०] ।
२. एक अरण्यक जो वानप्रस्थों के लिये है ।
विशेष—इसके पाँच अरण्यक अर्थात् भाग हैं । प्रथम भाग में,
जिसमें पाँच अध्याय और २२ खंड है, सोमयाग का विचार है ।
दुसरे अरण्यक के ७ अध्याय और २६ खंड है जिनमें से
तीसरे अध्याय में प्राण और पुरुष का विचार है और चार
अध्यायों में ऐतरेय उपनिषद् है । तीसरे अरण्यक में (२
अध्याय १२ खंड) में संहिता के पदपाठ और क्रमपाठ के अर्थ
को अलंकारों द्धारा प्रकट किया है । चैथे अरण्यक में एक
अध्याय है जिसको आश्वलायन ने नष्ट किया था । पाँचवें
अरण्य के ३ अध्याय और १४ खंड हैं जो शौनक ऋषि द्वारा
प्रकट हुए हैं ।
