दक्षिण में कोकण, किनारा और कुर्ग के जंगलों में भी य़ह होता है । इसका फल खाय़ जाता और गौवा में ब्रिंदाव के
नाम से बिकता है । पर य़ह वृक्ष उस तेल के कारण अधिक
प्रसिद्ध हे जो उसके बीज से निकला जाता है और तेल कोकम
का मक्खन कहलाता है । बाजारों मे य़ह तेल जमी हुई सफेद
लंबी बत्तिय़ों या टिकिय़ों के रूप में मिलता है जो साधारण
गर्मी से पिघल जाती हैं । यह बर्धक और संकोचक समझा
जाता है तथा सूजन आदि में इसकी मालिश होती है । इससे
मरहम भी बनाय़ा जाता है ।
