सांख्याशास्त्र के अनुसार महत्तत्व से उत्पन्न एक द्रव्य ।
विशेष.— यह महत्तत्व का विकार हैं और इसकी सात्विक अवस्था
से पाँच ज्ञानेंद्रियों, पाँच कर्मेद्रियों तथा मन की उत्पत्ति होती
है और तामस अवस्था से पंचतन्मात्राओं की उत्पत्ति होती
है, जिनसे क्रमशः आकाश, वायु, तेज, और पृथ्वी की
उत्पत्ति होती है । सांख्य में इसको प्रकृतिविकृति कहते हैं ।
यह अंतःकरणऩद्रव्य है ।
४. अंत:करण की एक वृत्ति । इसे् योगशास्त्र में अस्मिता कहते हैं ।
