विशेष— यह प्रायः ३-३ । । हाथ लंबा होता है और जंगली कुत्तों
से बहुत मिलता जुलता होता है । यह प्रायः बस्तियो के
आस पास झुँड बाँधकर रहता है और गाँवों में से भेड़,
बकरियों, मुरगों अथवा छोटे छोटे बच्चों आदि को उठा
ले जाता है । यह अपने शिकार की दौड़ाकर उसका पीछा
भी करता है और बहुत तेज दौड़ने के कारण शीघ्र ही
उसको पक़ड़ लेता है । यह प्रायः रात के समय बहुत शोर
मचाता है । यह जमीन में गड्ढा या माँद बनाकर रहता
है और उसी में बच्चे देता है । इसके बच्चों की आँखें जन्म के समय बिलकुल बंद रहती हैं और कान लटके हुए होते हैं ।
इसके काटने से एक प्रकार का बहुत तीव्र विष चढ़ता है
जिससे बचना बहुत कठिन होता है ।
