योग में चित्त की अवस्थाएँ ।
विशेष—व्यास के अनुसार ये अवस्थाएँ पाँच हैं-क्षिप्त, मूढ़, विक्षिप्त
एकाग्र और निरुद्ध । क्षिप्त अवस्था वह है चिसमें चित्त रजो-
गुण के द्वारा सदा अस्थिर रहे; मृढ़ वह है जिसमें चित्त तमो
गुण के कारण निद्रायुक्त या स्तब्ध हो, विक्षिप्त वह है जिसमें
चित्त स्थिर रहे, पर कभी कभी स्थीर भी हो जाय, एकाग्र वह
है जिसमें चित्त किसी एक विषय की ओर लगा हो, और निरुद्ध
वह है जिसमें सब वृत्तियों का निरोध हो जाय, संस्कार मात्र
रह जाय । इनमें से पहली तीन अवस्थाएँ योग के अनुकूल
नहीं है । पिछली दो योग या समाधि के उपयुक्त हैं । समाधि की भी चार भूमियाँ हैं—मधुमती, मधुप्रतीका, विशोका और
ऋतंभरा, जिनके लिये दे० 'समाधि' ।
