राजा द्रुपद का पुत्र और द्रौपदी का
भाई जो पांडवों की सेना का एक नायक था ।
विशेष—पृषत राजा का द्रुपद नामक एक पुत्र था । पृषत राजा
से भरद्वाज ऋषि की बहुत मित्रता थी, इससे वे नित्य द्रुपद
को लेकर ऋषि के आश्रम पर जाया करते थे । क्रमशः द्रुपद
और ऋषिपुत्र द्रोण में बड़ा स्नेह हो गया था । द्रुपद जब
राजा हुआ तब द्रोण उसके पास गए; पर उसने उनकी अवज्ञा की । इसपर द्रोण दीन भाव से इधर उधर घूमने लगे और
अंत में उन्होने कौरवों और पांडवों की अस्त्रशिक्षा का भार
लिया । अर्जुन गुरु के अपमान का बदला चुकाने के लिये
द्रुपद को बंदी करके लाए । द्रुपद ने द्रोण की आधा राज्य
देकर छुटकारा पाया । इस अपमान का बदला लेने के लिये
द्रुपद ने याज और अनुयाज नामक दो ऋषिकुमारों की
सहायता से एक बड़े यज्ञ का अनुष्ठान किया । इस यज्ञ से
एक अत्यंत तेजस्वी पुरुष खड्ग, चर्म, धनुवणि से सुसज्जित
उत्पन्न हुआ । देववाणी हुई कि यह राजपुत्र द्रुपद के शोक
का नाश करेगा और द्रोणाचार्य का वध इसी के हाथ से
होगा । कुरुक्षेत्र के युद्ध में जिस समय द्रोणाचार्य अपने पुत्र
अश्वत्थामा की मृत्यु की बात सुनकर योग में मग्न हुए थे
उस समय इसी धृष्टद्युम्न ने उनका सिर काटा था । महाभारत के युद्ध के पीछे अश्वत्थामा ने अपने पिता का बदला लिया
और सोते में धृष्टद्युम्न का सिर काट लिया ।
