उनसे धुंध की शिकायत की और कहा कि यदि आप इस दुष्ट
राक्षस को न मारेंगे तो बड़ा अनर्थ हो जायगा । बृहदश्व ने
कहा कि मैं तो वानप्रस्थ ग्रहण कर चुका हूँ और अब अस्त्र
नहीं उठा सकता । हाँ, मेरा लड़का कुवलयाश्व उसे अवश्य
मार डालेगा । तदनुसार कुवलयाश्व अपने सौ लड़कों को
लेकर उतंक के साथ घुंघु को मारने चला । उस समय विष्णु
ने भी लोकहित के विचार से उसके शरीर में प्रवेश किया था ।
कुवयाश्व और उसके ल़डकों को देखकर धुंधु क्रोध में
फुफकार छोड़ने लगा जिससे कुवलयाश्व के ९७ लड़के मारे
गए । अंत में कुवलयाश्व ने उसे मार डाला । तभी से
कुवलयाश्व का नाम धुंधुमार पड़ गया ।
