फूलों के झड़ जाने पर मटर की तरह की फलियाँ गुच्छों में
लगती हैं जो जाड़े में सूखकर फट जाती हैं और जिनके अंदर के लाल लाल बीज दिखाई पड़ते हैं । ये ही बीज घुँघची या
गुंजा के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं । इनका सारा अंग लाल होता है
केवल मुखपर छोटा सा काला छोंटा रहता है जो बहुत सुंदर
लगता है । सफेद रंगकी घुँघची भी होती है, जिसके मुँह पर
काला दाग नहीं होता । मुलेठी या जेठी मघु इसी घूँघची की
जड़ है । वैद्यक में घुंघची कड़ुई, बलकारक, केश और त्वचा
को हितकारी तथा व्रण, कुष्ट, गंज इत्यादि को दूर करनेवाली
मानी जाती है । जड़ और पत्ते विषनाशक कहे जाते हैं । सफेद
घुँघची वशीकरण की सामग्री मानी जाती है ।
