देवता और असुर व्याकुल हो गए थे । अंत में शिव जी ने देवा-
सुर की प्रार्थना पर इसे अपने कंठ में धारण किया था । इसी
से उनका नाम नीलकंठ पड़ा ।

पौधे नहीं उगते और मनुष्य केवल इसकी महक से मर जाता है ।
