१. आसाम का एक जिला जहाँ कामाक्ष

समय में प्रागज्योतिषपुर का राजा भगदत्त था । जब अर्जुन
दिग्विजय के लिये निकले थे, तब यह उनसे चीनियों औऱ
किरातों कि सेना लेकर लडा था । कुरुक्षेत्र के युद्ध में भी भगदत्त
चीनियों और किरातों की म्लेच्छ सना लेकर कोरवों की ओर
से लडने गया था । महाभारत में कहीं कहीं भगदत्त को
'म्लेच्छानामाधिप' भी कहा है । पीछे से जब शाक्तों और तांत्रिकों
का प्रभाव बढा, तब यह स्थान पवित्र मान लिया गया ।
